A word from the store
This figure shows a parent and child decorating hina dolls for the Peach Festival.
In Japan, hina dolls are usually displayed for about a month between February 3 and March 3, the Peach Festival.
It expresses the wish of the parents that their newborn child will grow up to be a healthy and gentle woman.
The dolls are also thought of as a substitute for the child, and are intended to wish the child "please do not bring misfortune" and "may you be blessed with happiness".
The peach on the left back of the picture (peach has the meaning of warding off evil spirits) and the white camellia that blooms in early spring represent the season.
The mounting used for this work is an old silk, which is almost impossible to order nowadays.
Although the work is approximately 150 years old, there are no notable defects other than a few burns in the blank spaces, and there are no stains on the face, which is the lifeblood of a beauty painting.
The old high-quality rock paints have deep and subdued colors.
The artist, Bokudo, died at the young age of 41, and his skill will be sorely missed.
