Biography
Unge (1773-1850)

An'ei 2 (1773) - Kaei 3 (1850)
A Shin Buddhist priest in the late Edo period. Born in Takeda Village, Oka Domain, Bungo Province (Oita Prefecture).
His Dharma name was Daigon (大含).The pseudonym is Unge (雲華) and Kōsetsu.
He was the 16th abbot of Shogyoji Temple in Nakatsu, Buzen Province.
While traveling throughout Japan as a lecturer at the Higashi Honganji Temple, he developed a close friendship with his fellow countrymen Tanomura Chikuden and Rai Sanyo.
He excelled in poetry, calligraphy, and painting, and was especially famous for his paintings of orchids that he cultivated himself.

Yamanashi Shutei (?-?)

A painter from Hita in Bungo Province (present-day Hita, Oita Prefecture). Originally surnamed Mori, he changed his family name to Yamanashi at the recommendation of Rai Sanyo. He was the third son of Yamanashi Goseki and studied Nanga painting under Tanomura Chikuden. He was active as a Nanga painter during the Tenpo era(1830-1843).
