The Zen monk Kensu of Tang, when asked about the intention behind Bodhidharma’s journey from India, smiled and pointed to the ritual wine tray—perhaps implying that the essence lies in things just as they are.
To a monk like you, who is free from attachment, aiming to catch great fish may not have been fitting. Shrimp and clams were good enough to satisfy hunger

Biography
Jyakushitsu Kenko (1753–1830)

Jyakushitsu Kenko was a Sōtō Zen monk born in 1753 in Shikida Village, Usa District, Buzen Province (now Usa City, Oita Prefecture).
His secular surname was Miyamoto, clan name Fujiwara, and childhood name Hōshaku. He entered the priesthood at age 10 under Master Daiken at Matsuyaji in Bungo and took the name Kukai.
He trained at Kozanji and Shozanji in Nagato and inherited the Dharma lineage of Kaigai Ryoten at Shozanji.
Later he became abbot of Gotokuji in Musashi and Seiryoji in Omi, then founded Tenneiji in Omi.
His notable work is "Manmin Kyo-yu Juzenkai Hogo." He died in 1830 at the age of 78.
