Biography
Kishi Renzan (1804-1859)

First year of Bunka era (1804) - 6th year of Ansei era (1859)
Born in Kyoto. Studied under Ganku and Ganryo.
Produced barrier paintings for the Kyoto Imperial Palace.
He is regarded as one of the "four great Heian painters" of the late Edo period, and was the catalyst for the modernization of the Kishi School.
His family name is Aoki. His first name was Shotoku. His nicknames are Shido and Shishin. His name is Banshoro.

From the store
It is a very simple painting subject.
The Japanese bush warbler is an early spring subject. (around February to March).
Japanese people in the past may have displayed an early spring plum tree ikebana or other flower arrangement together in an alcove under this hanging scroll.
This work teaches us that the margins are also part of the painting.
The margins are partially stained and creased, which is a pity, but it is not a problem for viewing.
Tenchi (The top and bottom of the surface fabric is Japanese paper.) is made of Japanese paper using a technique called momi-gami.
The craftsman intentionally rubbed and dyed the washi to create a wabi-sabi atmosphere. The color of the surrounding fabric is the original light green of the bird. It can be seen that this too was thoughtfully tailored to this color by the old mounting company.
