Yaku: Translation

A term that compares the external world to a dream, that it does not actually exist.
That all existence is not a fixed entity.
A state of being that has broken free from all attachments and has forgotten enlightenment, learning, and honor.
It can also be translated as a symbol of the emptiness and fragility of life.

The character "夢" (Yume – Dream) is often used in traditional Japanese tea gatherings to evoke a sense of transience, reflection, and poetic atmosphere. It appears most commonly on calligraphy scrolls (kakejiku) displayed in the tea room, especially in gatherings held at night or during seasonal transitions. For example, it may be used in a winter evening tea gathering (yobanashi), where dim candlelight creates a dreamlike ambiance. In New Year’s tea gatherings, it expresses hope and renewal, referencing Japan’s tradition of auspicious first dreams (hatsuyume). In memorial ceremonies, it symbolizes the fleeting nature of life, and during moon-viewing or literary-themed gatherings, it evokes a quiet, contemplative mood. Kobori Takugan (1931-2017)

Chief Minister of Daitokuji School of Rinzai Buddhism.
He is the chief priest of the Daitokuji Pagoda, Kohoan.
Born in Aichi Prefecture.
Trained at Bairinji Temple and Daitokuji Monastery in Kurume, Fukuoka Prefecture.
The seal includes "Jikinyu-ken-shu".
