Biography
Kondo Kouichiro (1884-1962)

Japanese painter of the Taisho and Showa eras.
Born in Yamanashi Prefecture in 1884. His real name is Kou. Also known as Tsukushi-kyo and Gachusai.
Graduated from the Tokyo School of Fine Arts (now Tokyo University of the Arts).
Joined the Yomiuri Shimbun in 1915, where he drew cartoons and illustrations.
In 1921, he became a member of the Japan Art Academy.
After the Great Kanto Earthquake, he lived in Kyoto and developed his own style of ink and wash painting.
Became a member of the Nitten in 1959. Died in 1962 at the age of 78.

A word from the store
Koichiro's signature ink and wash expression is on full display in this work.
The light of the sea illuminated by the morning sun is also expressed by shading and blurring.
Needless to say, once the ink is on the paper, it cannot be redrawn.
Koichiro must have calculated in his mind how much ink, how much pressure, and how much water to use in order to create the finished work.
The result is a poetic work of art that is the result of his skilled technique and the coloring of the sumi ink that he produces from time to time.
