Biography
Matsubayashi Keigetsu (1876-1963)

Born in Hagi, Yamaguchi Prefecture.
Real name Atsushi Ito. His family name is Shikei. Also known as Kogai and Gyokko Gyojin.
Moved to Tokyo in 1893 and studied Nanga under Noguchi Yukoku.
He was a member of the jury from the 1st Teiten in 1919, and became a member of the Teiten Committee in 1924.
In 1932, he became a member of the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts.
In 1944, he became a member of the Imperial Household Artists' Association.
In 1958, he was awarded the Order of Culture.
In 1960, he became the president of the Japan Southern Painting Academy.
He served as a member of major exhibition committees and judges, and made great contributions to the promotion of modern nanga.
He died in 1963 at the age of 86.
