Falling maple leaves and pine needles drift through the air, with some caught in a spider’s web.
Though a bit difficult to see, the pine needles in the upper right are painted in gold. Parts of the maple leaves also contain gold, expressing a shimmering effect as they catch the light.
In contrast, the maple leaves and pine needles falling toward the lower left are rendered in more subdued colors.
There is a sense of movement within the stillness, capturing the atmosphere of autumn.
(Stains are visible on the light-colored sections at the top and bottom of the mounting.)

Painter of the Shijo School. Born in Mie Prefecture.
Studied under Keinen Imao.
His real name is Yasushi.The pseudonym is Kensei-sai.
Excelled at painting flowers and birds.
Died in 1967.
