Biography
Takahashi Shuka (1878-1952)

Born in 1878 (Meiji 11) in Okayama Prefecture, his name was Hayata.
After studying under Ishii Kinryō in Okayama, he moved to Kyoto, where he studied under Tsuji Kako and Yamamoto Shunkyo.
His painting Peony was exhibited at the “Japan-France Art Exchange Exhibition” held in Paris in 1911 and was purchased by the French government.
At the age of 51, he built an atelier in Takarazuka.
In 1947 (Shōwa 22), he returned to his hometown of Okayama, where he spent the remainder of his life until his death in 1952.
He named his ateliers Chōōkyo (during his time in Kyoto), Sōun Shōkyo (in Takarazuka), and Kyokusuikyō and Bokkōkutsu (during his time in Saidaiji, Okayama).
He passed away in 1952 (Shōwa 27) at the age of 79.
