Biography
Keigetsu(?-?)

・The bio of the author is unknown.

From the store
It depicts a scene from The Tale of Genji.
It is unknown what scene it depicts, but it is probably a scene in autumn when the leaves and chrysanthemums are in full bloom, and a man is courting a woman.
Although we do not know the details of the artist, Keigetsu(景月), we know from the painting style of this work that he is a person who studied a unique Japanese painting style called Yamato-e.

Yamato-e is said to have its origins in the 9th or early 10th century, when a technique introduced from China was transformed into a style unique to Japan.
It is distinctive in that it uses Japan's unique nature and customs as its subject matter.

The main players in Yamato-e differ depending on the era.

*Muromachi period - Tosa school painter.
*Edo period - Including the Tosa school and incorporating painters from other schools.
*Late Edo period - Painters of the restoration Yamato-e school such as Tanaka Totsugon, Ukita Ikkei, and Reizei Tamechika.
*From the Meiji period to the Showa period - Matsuoka Eikyu, Matsumoto Ichiyo, etc.

The world-famous Rinpa school is also based on Yamato-e.

Yamato-e, which depicts an elegant world unique to Japan, may have been a kind of reaction and assertion against techniques introduced from overseas (Chinese painting techniques of the Heian period and Western painting techniques of the Meiji period).

However, if you look at it purely as a painting, the cleanliness of the paint, the fineness of the line drawings, and the emotion of the story all seem fresh in modern times.
