(Explanation of the hanging scroll design) peonies and lions, bamboo and tigers,"Botan ni Karajishi,Take ni Tora"牡丹に唐獅子,竹に虎

The lion is known as the king of all beasts. However, even this invincible lion fears only one thing: a parasite that lives within its own body. This parasite hides in the lion's fur, multiplies, and eventually breaks through the skin to feast on the lion's flesh. However, this parasite dies when exposed to the night dew that drips from the peony flower. Therefore, the lion rests under the peony flower at night, finding its sanctuary there.

Similarly, the tiger, a formidable beast across Asia, cannot defeat elephants. In the face of a herd of elephants, the tiger seeks refuge in a bamboo grove. The massive elephants cannot enter the bamboo grove, and their tusks can be damaged by the bamboo. Thus, the bamboo grove becomes the tiger's safe haven.

The phrase "Lion and peony, tiger and bamboo" in this theme symbolizes the question, "Where is your place of refuge?"

Relying on money, possessions, status, or fame may seem dependable, but they can lead to confusion and a lack of true peace.
Conversely, I believe that when one establishes something intangible in their heart, they can become stronger.
