Biography
Yamada Mumon (1900-1988)

A Rinzai Zen monk and the 639th abbot of Myoshin-ji.
Born in Aichi Prefecture. His secular surname was Yamada.
His religious title was Taishitsu; his Dharma name was Sokei, later changed to Mumon.
His residence was Tsuusendou. He trained under Seki Seisetsu and received ordination from Hashimoto Gempo.
He resided at Reiun-in within the Myoshin-ji temple complex in Kyoto.
He served as master of the monks' hall at Shofuku-ji in Kobe,
director of the Institute for Zen Studies, and president of Hanazono University.
He passed away in 1988 at the age of 88.
