The natural heart is like a mirror of clear water.
If the heart is pure, then no matter how much it is adorned with colors, no defilement will cling to it.

Biography
Sohan Genpo (1848–1922)
A Rinzai Zen monk of the Daitoku-ji school from Ishikawa Prefecture, he was born in 1848 and passed away in 1922.
His pseudonym was Shōun. He served as the 486th head abbot of the Daitoku-ji school of the Rinzai sect.
He excelled in calligraphy and was highly esteemed for his work on tea utensils and hanging scrolls.
