Yaku: Translation

福寿 Fukuju…Happiness and longevity.

海無量 Kai muryo…It is as immeasurable as the sea.

※The blessings of Guan Yin Bodhisattva are as immeasurable as the sea.

慈眼視衆生 Jigen shi shujou

Yaku: Translation

With compassionate eyes, she sees all living beings

This means "Kannon Bodhisattva gazes upon all sentient beings with eyes of compassion, treating them all equally."
Originating from the Lotus Sutra – Universal Gate Chapter, this phrase expresses the boundless mercy of Kannon Bodhisattva, who seeks to save all beings from suffering without discrimination.

Biography

Takeda Mokurai (1854-1930)

Rinzai Zen priest of the Meiji and Taisho periods.
Born in Iki Province (Nagasaki Prefecture) in 1854.
His real name was Soen (宗淵), and his alias was Sahentei (左辺亭).
He studied under Kodo at Kokubunji Temple and Ranryo at Sofukuji Temple in Hakata, Fukuoka Prefecture.
Studied Chinese studies under Kamei Nanmei.
In 1892 (Meiji 25), he became the chief abbot of the Kenninji School.
He passed away in 1930.
