【Biography】
Chūhō Sōu (1759-1838)

Rinzai Zen priest of the late Edo period. He was the 418th head of Daitokuji Temple. Born in Kyoto.
Chūho is his Buddhist name.Posthumous name is Sōu.The pseudonym is Shogetsu-rojin,Shogetsu-so,Ichikai,Hasui,Hasui-kanjin,Rakuyo-jin.
He succeeded to the Dharma under the leadership of Sōki Sōkudō, the 406th head of Daitoku-ji.
In 1836, he received the title of Daiko Shinsho Zenshi from Emperor Ninko.
He passed away in 1838 at the age of 79.

【Main Meaning】
*This is one of the Chinese poems in the Wakan Recitation Collection, a collection of poems written in the Heian period (794-1185). The inside of the Chosei-den(長生殿) is always rich, and the inside of Furou-mon(不老門), the days pass slowly. Both Chosei-den and Furou-mon are buildings related to the emperors of old China, and Furou-mon is one of the city gates of Luoyang. Chosei-den, as its name suggests, means that old age never seems to come. It is a word of congratulations and is often written at the beginning of the year in calligraphy.
