Biography
Imai Keiju (1891-1967)

Painter of the Shijo School. Born in Mie Prefecture.
Studied under Keinen Imao.
His real name is Yasushi.The pseudonym is Kensei-sai.
Excelled at painting flowers and birds.
Died in 1967.

Main Meaning
Okina is the oldest of the Noh plays that have been performed since the Heian period (794-1185). In the old days, it was called "shiki-samba," and was performed in a slightly different form than today. Since it is often performed on festive occasions, it is now most often performed during the New Year. There is no story in Okina. There is no plot or story, and the rituals are performed in a solemn manner. The main actor of this performance, Okina, wears a mask on stage and lets the god of Okina dwell in the actor's body. It is a slow and solemn dance to pray for peace and tranquility in the land.
