Biography
Tomoda Yasukiyo (1862-1918)

Ceramicist, painter, and businessman of the Meiji and Taisho periods.
Born in Kanazawa, Kaga Province.
His stage names are "Kinjo Kyu-kei" and "Kyu-kei".
Studied Japanese-style painting under Kouno Bairei, Kishi Chikudo, and Ikeda Kyuka.
He also learned Western-style pigmentation from Natomi Sukejiro, and later studied pottery making and pigment adjustment from the German Wagner.
In 1899, he became the director of the Izushi County Ceramics Laboratory in Hyogo Prefecture.
In 1906, he returned to Kanazawa and established the Hayashiya Gumi (later known as Nippon Hardware Co., Ltd.).
From 1908, he mainly directed pottery production as chief engineer, manufacturing and selling tableware for export overseas.
Died in 1918.
