Biography
Kono Bairei (1844-1895)

Born in Kyoto.
Real name is Yasuda. His real name was Chokuho.
His nickname was Shijun. The pseudonym is Bairei,Bairei.
Other names include Oumu, Choyando, and Kakurokuen.
At the age of 9, he studied under Nakajima Raisho of the Maruyama School.
Later, he studied under Shiokawa Bunrin of the Shijo School.
At the time of the Meiji Restoration, he was extremely poor.
He studied Chinese classics under Kamiyama Hoyo, and also associated with literati, and studied nanga (Chinese-style painting) under Nakanishi Koseki and Maeda Chodo to make a family.
In 1880, he established the Kyoto Prefectural Painting School with Mochizuki Gyokusen and others, and served there.
He also organized the Kyoto Youth Painting Study Group and the Kyoto Art Association, and devoted himself to the development of Japanese-style painting and the teaching of younger artists.

Kouno Seiko (1881-1945)

Born in Kyoto, Japan in 1881.
Second son of Kouno Bairei. His name was Enjiro.
The pseudonym is Chokusei,Shishi,Banseiro-shujin,Harunoya,Ryosetsuenshu.
He studied under his father and Takeuchi Seiho.
He was awarded a second prize at a painting competition.
Died in 1945 at the age of 64.
The painter Toyokazu Kouno is his son.
