Biography
Takemura Gyujin (1901–1984)

Born in 1901 in Toyama City, Japan, as the second son of a Jodo Shinshu temple.
After abandoning plans to attend the Tokyo School of Fine Arts, he worked as a designer.
Post-World War II, at age 45, he devoted himself to painting, developing a unique ink wash style using the "kappitsu" technique—applying ink with a dry brush onto washi paper.
His works often depict Buddhist legends and Chinese classics with a humorous and vigorous touch.
In his 60s, supported by physician Kazuo Morita, his creative activities flourished.
Notable works include "Laozi Leaving the Pass" and "Tiger in Bamboo Grove."
He passed away in 1984, and the following year, the Takamura Gyujin Memorial Museum was established in Toyama City.
